Managing Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

Managing Type 1 Diabetes

Managing type 1 diabetes is different for managing type 2 diabetes. Insulin therapy is different from person to person, it is based on how much insulin your pancreas may be producing and how sensitive you are to it. Type 2 Diabetes Management

In Type 2 diabetes the problem is not about producing enough insulin, but the body doesn't respond to the insulin as normal. People with type 2 diabetes need to follow a
different diabetes management plan. If you have type 2 diabetes, eating a well-balanced diet and getting regular exercise is extremely important to mange your type 2
diabetes. Following are some important points to remember for managing type 2 diabetes:

  • Take medicines as prescribed - your doctor may prescribe oral diabetes medications or combination of medications that is most appropriate for you.

  • Monitoring your blood sugar levels regularly.

  • Dietary strategy and plan - smart food choices can help to keep blood sugar under control. Focus on low GI food to achieve a more stable blood sugar level and eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, and legumes.

  • Exercise - exercise can improve your health and energy and help insulin work more effectively.

  • Weight control - 90% of people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are overweight, losing some weight could help to better manage diabetes.

  • Insulin injections (in some cases) - the longer a person suffer from Type 2 diabetes, the more he will to start an insulin treatment.

  • Hemoglobin A1c test (HbA1c test)
