Pre-Diabetes

Pre-Diabetes is healthcare epidemic the affect 57 millions American, it is a condition where blood sugar levels is in gray area in between normal levels and diabetic levels. People with pre-diabetes may have IFG (Impaired Fasting Glucose), IGT (Impaired Glucose Tolerance) or even both. Their IFG levels is in the range of 100-125 mg/dL after overnight fast but lower than diabetic levels 140-199 mg/dl 2 hours after glucose tolerance test. Most type 2 diabetes patients will have pre-diabetes before they develop full-blown diabetes.

Patients with prediabetes often have an increased risk of blood vessel and heart disease, they also share some common complications with diabetes patients such as nerve damage, kidney disease and diabetic eye disease. While they share the same risk factors with type 2 diabetes patients, persons with prediabetes have more changes to reduce their blood glucose levels to normal values. Following are some commonly know risk factor for pre-diabetes:

  • Family history of diabetes

  • Overweight  or obese

  •  Women with gestational diabetes history

  • Physically inactive

  • Over 45 years of age

Early Diabetes Symptoms

Early diabetes detection is crucial for diabetes treatment. In most cases diabetes often goes undiagnosed because most of the diabetes symptoms are not clear and not all individual present them. Listed below are some early diabetes symptoms.

  • Constant hunger

  • Polyuria or unusual increase urination

  • Constant excessive thirst also know as Polydipsia

  • Increase appetite and weight gain

  • Feeling very tired, weak, fatigue most of the time

  • Unusual weight loss

  • Fast weight gain

  • Blurry vision

  • Not healing skin infections

  • Loss of feeling in hands or feet

  • Recurring skin infections
