Diabetes Awareness Month (World Diabetes Day - 14th November)

 

Nearly 24 million American adults and children have diabetes. Due to the rapid growing of new diabetes cases, November had been declared the National Diabetes Awareness Month.

Throughout the Diabetes Awareness Month multiple campaigns are organized to raise awareness about the disease. These campaigns offer people a chance to understand the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of managing the disease. In order to raise public awareness on this deadly disease during the Diabetes Awareness Month we have listed some frightening facts about the disease.

2010 Diabetes Facts And Figures - Diabetes Awareness Month:

  • 8% or 24 million American Population have diabetes

  • in every 40 seconds 1 new diabetes case is diagnosed in U.S.

  • 57 million Americans are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes

  • about 90-95% of diabetes is of type 2

  • diabetes is the leading cause of heart disease, kidney failure and blindness among adults

  • if this trend continue 1/3 of the children born in US will develop diabetes during their lifetime

  • 1 American is killed by diabetes in every 3 minutes

World Diabetes Day

In addition, the World Diabetes Day is celebrated on November 14 every year to mark the birthday of Frederick Banting who discover the idea that lead to invention of insulin in 1922.
