African Tea A Possible Treatment For Type-II Diabetes

A recent study has concluded that a special form of tea may helps in treating type 2 diabetes. This particular path breaking study was carried out by scientists of the Pharmaceutical Science Department of the Copenhagen University.

The scientists who conducted this particular research hope to develop a prospective treatment and cure for Type 2 diabetes by using a special form of African tea. Apparently this tea is made from Citrus Aurantium extracts and leaves of Rauvolfia Vomitoria which are used widely as medicinal treatment in Nigeria.

This African tea has yielded positive responses and results when it was treated on rats that were genetically suffering from diabetes. The scientists who conducted the research apparently concluded on the fact that when the genetically diabetic rats were provided regular treatment of African tea and a low-trans fat diet for a period of 6 weeks, the results obtained were mostly positive. The same method used on human is also said to have yielded positive result.

Mr. Joan from the Copenhagen University added that, the research subjects were given 750ml of African tea each day. It was noted that, cure for this treatment is different from other forms of type 2 diabetes therapies as it doesn’t affect the blood sugar level initially. However after about 4 months into the treatment, the scientists could observe for themselves the increased glucose tolerance in the research subjects thus confirming the treatment of diabetes.

The researchers apparently observed that people who drank this type of African tea had an increase in the levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids present in their body. This form of fatty acid is said to make the cell membranes in our bodies more permeable thus resulting in better absorption of glucose. The researchers and examiners are hoping that these results and inferences could help in the development of a better and more promising form of treatment for patients afflicted with the type 2 diabetes.
